Five fab focal ministers commissioned
Updated: Sep 10, 2019
There was a real buzz in the air on Sunday 18 August, as congregations from across the Bodmin Team began to arrive at St Meubred's, Cardinham. The sense of joy and friendship continued until the last cake had been eaten in the village hall much later!
Bishop Philip joined us for this very special team service, in which he commissioned five focal ministers for the congregations:
- Barbara Brittain for St Petroc's;
- Dave and Sara Bryon for Lanivet;
- Judy Stott for St Stephen's;
- Revd Roger May for St Hydroc's.
He also recommissioned Rosie Waldron as a local worship leader.
Focal ministry is a new initiative, not just here in Bodmin but across the wider diocese - Bishop Philip told us that he is excited to see us pioneering this pattern of ministry which will lead the church into a healthy future.
While most of the team clergy and readers move around the whole team, preaching, leading worship and supporting the various congregations in their outreach and mission, our new focal ministers are to stay in one place. They will serve as a point of contact between their church and the local community, and draw others into serving God's kingdom in that village or town.
During the service, Bishop Philip inspired us by preaching about Mary, the mother of Jesus, who said 'yes!' to playing her part in God's plan. We are really excited to see Barbara, Dave, Sara, Judy and Roger respond to God's call by saying 'yes!' to these new roles – do keep them in your prayers and ask them how you can join in with serving God in your community!
