St. Petroc's Parish Centre Lottery Grant
Following on from our success with the Awards for All lottery bid for Lanivet Church Hall, the PCC of St. Petroc's was emboldened to make its own application. Its proposal was to improve electrical and heating installations in order to provide a more comfortable environment for the many groups meeting on the premises.
Current users include the Little Wrens clothing bank. This group has permanent storage space adjoining one of the rooms, with regular usage of the centre to receive and distribute items. Two children’s groups meet in the centre: The Melody and Movement group for preschool children and a child-care activity group for school age children during holidays.
Two training organisations use the centre for some of their courses: The Work Skills Training Academy from Cornwall College and the Howlett Training Partnership. These courses support local businesses and help build the skills base of many in the town who lack qualifications. Other users include Kernow Credit Union, Bodmin Folk Club and Bodmin Community Church. The rooms are often let for children’s parties, providing a low cost option amidst the pressures of high expectation birthday events.
The church has now received a grant of £9000, which will help us complete the necessary improvements and ensure that the parish centre remains a key community facility long into the future.
